Anthropic Signs $11.6 Billion Cloud Deal With Akamai

Anthropic will spend $11.6 billion on Akamai's cloud infrastructure.

Anthropic has announced an $11.6 billion deal with Akamai that will run for seven years — six times the size of the previously reported $1.8 billion agreement. The deal is not yet final, however, and depends on Akamai meeting certain conditions.

It is the largest deal in Akamai's history and highlights surging demand for processors used across a wide range of workloads, including AI. Akamai did not specify what Anthropic will use the processors for, and revenue from the deal is not expected to start flowing until 2027.

Akamai plans to spend around $5.5 billion expanding its capacity and will set aside an additional $1.7 billion for components this year. As part of the agreement, Akamai granted Anthropic a warrant to buy shares, allowing Anthropic to take a stake in the company as its cloud spending grows.

It is Akamai's first deal to include a warrant and the biggest in its history — a sign of the shifting dynamics in the cloud and AI markets.
